C.M. = conditioned medium collected from Kupffer cell cultures incubated for 24 h with Pb(NO3)2 (10 mM). Apoptosis was detected on slides of haematoxylin-eosin stained cells, counting at least 300 cells in at least 10 randomly selected fields.
