Relative gene expression data represent mean + SE. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to establish a normal distribution and a Levenes test for the homogeneity of variances. All samples included in this study were normally distributed. The statistical significance of differences between diseased and control animals was determined by using the two-sided Dunnetts post-test analysis. A P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Analysis was performed using SPSS software (SPSS Benelux BV, Gorinchem, the Netherlands).
